About Chief J M Dlamini

Historical Backgroud of Chief J M Dlamini Cheshire Home

The outcome of a survey conducted by a group of people who formed a Development Committee in the area around Embhuleni Hospital in 1991 with the help of the then MEC of Health Mr Zithato find out the plight of people living with disabilities who were discharged from hospital only to be re-admitted almost immediately. A possibility was created for this committee to link with the Cheshire Homes South Africa in Cape Town.

The National Office helped with fundraising while the local committee found the land to build a home.

Land was donated by the late Chief J.M Dlamini whose wife was involved in the local committee.

The home was built and opened in September 1992.

Since then the Home has been sustained by dedication and hard work from both staff and residents, who believe in doing things for themselves.
